PPP has created the window of opportunity to enhance partnership- Dr. Balati

In operationalize of Public Private Partnership (PPP), CSSC has managed to increase awareness of legal framework to government officials, owners and managers of the facilities through sensitization meetings, document dissemination as well as formation of the National, Regional and Council PPP Forums.

The CSSC Director of Health Services Dr. Josephine Balati  made this statement when sharing successes, lessons learnt and challenges experienced by CSSC in implementing PPP during the Consultative meeting of the Councils Designated Hospitals held in Dar es Salaam.

Moreover, Dr. Balati disclosed that, the initiative of PPP intervention has led to at least 67 of 101 Churches owned hospitals to sign Agreement with the government and create a window of opportunity for enhancing partnership in health service delivery all over the country. In line with this intervention, hospitals signed Service Agreement are benefited by getting Staff support   and Salary grant.

In addition, Dr. Balati went on through elaborating the issue of human resource by mentioning number of trainings conducted as part of health system strengthening to increase production of health workforce in health sector especially in Faith Based Organizations. Despite of this initiative, the issue of retention of the trained staff is still a challenge.

Sharing the strength of PPP the PPP Coordinator Dr. Mariam Ongala from the Ministry of Health and social Welfare, said that the Government has developed enabling policies and environment as an effort to strengthen the delivery of health services in Tanzania. She mentioned some achievements as involvement of  Private sector  in health planning and development of guidelines, training public health workers within private facilities and training Institutions and support for staff salaries and bed grants.
