Hospitals advised to embrace technology

HEALTH centres and hospitals in the country have been advised to transform from the old ways of collecting information from their patients and adopt new technology in a quest to increase data accuracy and effectiveness.

The Director of Education Services at Christian Social Services Commission Mr. Petro Masatu, made the call in Dar es Salaam at the weekend during the launching of Africa eHealth Solutions.

Mr. Masatu said that proper data was important in any interventions undertaken, because it improves the quality of the decision making process in any field.

“The challenges that beset the health sector in Tanzania are a result of limited and sometimes improper data when it comes to addressing various problems” pointed out Mr. Masatu”

There is a need for the health sector to invest in technologies for ICT so as to improve performance in delivering services to the community.

The programme Manager of Afya Connect (4) Change Lake Zone (AfyaC4C), Mr. Deogratius Katonyella, noted that the health solution through the use of AfyaPro software was initially implemented in the Lake Zone.

“The system has helped these facilities to improve the ability of collecting, storing and analyzing health data and has also increased the efficiency, accountability, effectiveness of health services”

“Other positive virtues include improved health service trends in centers”, he noted. All these initiatives are supported by a Dutch Organization known as International Institute of Communication.

He described that problem of electricity in the use of ICT gadgets but pointed out the solar panels have been put in place as alternative means of generating power.

The Developer of AfyaPro Software, Andrew Muga said the system will enable the government make informed decisions during budget allocations.
